Kia Recalls Over 427,000 Telluride SUVs Due to Safety Concern

Kia Motors is recalling more than 427,000 of its popular Telluride SUVs in the United States due to a defect that could potentially cause the vehicles to roll away while parked. The recall, which affects certain 2020-2024 Telluride models, was initiated by Kia America earlier this month.

The issue stems from the intermediate shaft and right front driveshaft in the affected vehicles not being fully engaged, which could result in unintended vehicle movement. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or crashes related to this defect.

The recall applies to Tellurides manufactured between January 9, 2019, and October 19, 2023, for the 2020-2023 model years and select 2024 model year vehicles. Kia dealers will update the electronic parking brake software and replace any damaged intermediate shafts at no cost to owners. Those who have already paid for repairs related to this issue will be reimbursed.

As a precautionary measure, drivers of impacted Tellurides are advised to manually engage the emergency brake before exiting the vehicle. Owner notification letters will be sent out on May 15, with dealers being notified a few days beforehand.

Kia is urging affected Telluride owners to have their vehicles inspected and repaired as soon as possible to ensure the safety of both drivers and passengers. If you believe your vehicle may be part of the recall, contact your local Kia dealership for further instructions.
