2 min readPrime Minister PakistanImran Khan, was removed on Saturday (9) in a parliamentary motion of censure, After several weeks of political crisis in the South Asian country which possesses nuclear weapons.
Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, indicated that “the censure motion was approved” after obtaining a majority of 174 votes out of a total of 342 seats.
No prime minister has completed his term in office Pakistan Since the country’s independence in 1947, But Khan is the first to fall foul of the parliamentary censure motion.
Parliament has yet to set a date for his successor, although opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif remains a strong candidate to lead the country of 220 million people, mostly Muslims.

Khan, 69, has tried all sorts of maneuvers to stay in power, including dissolving the House of Representatives. The Supreme Court declared the move illegal last week and ordered a vote on the censure motion.
Imran Khan, a former cricket (national sport) star, was elected prime minister in 2018 on a promise to end decades of corruption and nepotism, but had to manage a weak national currency, persistent inflation and the burden of public debt.
