The equipment that will ensure the voting exercise for the Brazilian people in 2022 was presented in Manaus on December 13. The EU 2020 model is the first to look different from what voters are used to since 1996.

In addition to the visual aspect, there are other changes:

  • An office station with a full graphic display, no physical keyboard, and a touch-sensitive surface;
  • System on a Chip (SOC) processor, 18 times faster than the 2015 model;
  • Lithium-iron-phosphate battery: lower maintenance costs because it does not need to be recharged;
  • Pen-drive type application media, which provides greater logistical flexibility for TREs in media generation;
  • Expected battery life over the life of the jar.

The new electronic ballot box makes voter identification faster. While one person is voting, another person can be identified by the polling station.

This may increase the number of voters in each department or shorten any waiting lists.

UE 2020 also has an improved keyboard, with dual-factor keys. This allows the keyboard itself to report an error if there is a bad connection or a switch with an intermittent short circuit.

It will not be the only model for the 2022 elections. According to TSE, about 225,000 such ballot boxes have been obtained.

Of the 577,125 tractors that will be used, including the so-called emergency tractors (used to replace those that are causing problems), about 73 thousand will be from the 2009 model, about 118,000 will be from the 2010 model and about 35 thousand will be from the 2011 model.

Equipment from 2013 (30,142) and 2015 (95,885) was also disclosed by TSE.

Historical

The electronic voting machine was implemented in Brazil in the municipal elections of 1996. Although there has been no change in the appearance of the machine, the technology used has changed for 25 years in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2020.
