The New York Times on Saturday reported that Pentagon documents show that US airstrikes in the Middle East have been marred by “deeply flawed intelligence” and that thousands of civilians, including many children, have been killed.

According to the newspaper, a recently compiled collection of classified documents, including accounts of more than 1,300 civilian casualties, disproves the government’s version of the war waged by precision bombs.

Promises like transparency and regular accountability have not been fully fulfilled, he said.

“None of the assessed records were records of violations or disciplinary action,” the newspaper noted, adding that civilian deaths were the least reported.

In all three cases cited, on July 19, 2016, US special forces carried out bombings in northern Syria against areas believed to be three Islamic State concentration camps. The deaths of 85 militants were initially reported, but they were actually 120 farmers and villagers.

According to the report, poor surveillance footage often contributed to fatal errors.

Most recently, the United States had to admit its mistake after accusing it of possessing bombs in a vehicle destroyed by a drone in Kabul in August. The victims of the attack were 10 members of the same family.

Many of the civilians who survived the U.S. attacks were disabled, requiring expensive treatment, but less than a dozen indemnities have been recorded.

When questioned by the newspaper, Capt. Bill Urban, spokesman for the Federal Command, said: And we try to learn from these mistakes. “

“We are working diligently to prevent this kind of damage. We are investigating all credible cases. We mourn the loss of every innocent life,” he added.

In the final years of former President Barack Obama’s term, the U.S. aviation campaign in the Middle East grew as popular support for the land war waned.

Obama said the use of remote-controlled aerial equipment was in favor of “the most accurate air campaign in history” capable of reducing civilian casualties.

However, in five years, the US Air Force has carried out more than 50,000 airstrikes in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, according to the New York Times.
