Tragically, just a day after the water emergency, Ryan’s mother suffered a massive stroke and passed away. Understandably, Ryan is now left wondering if the contamination played a role in her mother’s untimely demise. In response to the incident, Care Initiatives, the parent company of Parkridge, confirmed that there had been only one reported case of Legionnaires’ disease. However, Care Initiatives has yet to identify the root cause of the contamination.

As a precautionary measure, the nursing home will continue to provide bottled water to the residents until they receive clearance from the state health department to resume normal water usage. Despite efforts to seek clarification from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services and the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals, no response has been received to shed light on the matter.
