Robson Cancio heads to the US to finish training to fight for a world title
1 min readRobson Conceião will head to Las Vegas in the United States on Sunday, where he will complete his preparation for the World Boxing Organization (OMB) and World Boxing Council (WMC) edition of the super featherweight world title fight. He will face Rio-2016 Olympic champion Shakur Stevenson of the USA in Newark, New Jersey.
Trained by Luis Doria, who has been with Acelino Bobo Freitas for many years, Robson is ranked second in the CMB and has recorded 17 wins (eight knockouts) and one loss. Last year, the Bahian boxer fought for the belt against Mexican Oscar Valdez and lost on points after 12 rounds in a highly controversial decision by the judges.
Shakur Stevenson, silver at Rio/2016, is 25 years old and left-handed. His record is undefeated after 18 fights, with nine knockouts. He is considered one of the best boxers today. Since he is from the Newark area, he will have the support of all the fans in the fight.
“Shakur Stevenson is a great champion, I have respect for him, but only one will emerge as the champion. And the champion is Robson Conceição,” said the fighter, who lives in Salvador, Bahia, at a press conference in July. “I guarantee the best performance of my career. It will be a great fight against a great champion and I will be ready to put on a great show for the Brazilian people and never give up.”
