On social media, the money mogul commented on the incident. “Yes, it’s not really good. The team is assessing the damage. In the future, we won’t be testing all 33 engines at once,” Musk said on Twitter.
According to Reuters, the failure occurred in the midst of a static one-day fire test campaign of the booster, which is equipped with a set of 33 Raptor engines for use on an upcoming orbital test flight.
At the start of the year, Musk said the spacecraft’s first orbital flight could be later this year and be counted. First missile projects: Satellite launches and missions to the Moon, including a special mission, aboard Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa.
Asked by Reuters, SpaceX has not commented on the explosion. The US Federal Aviation Administration has also not said whether it will investigate the blast.
In late 2020 and early 2021, SpaceX lost four prototypes of the same spacecraft in a series of high-altitude test launches when return landing attempts ended in explosions.
