Shiv Media: UK Conservatives suspend MP for controversial comments about Islamists in London

Lee Anderson, a member of the UK’s Conservative Party, has been suspended for making controversial remarks about London Mayor Sadiq Khan. Anderson accused Khan of being under the control of “Islamists”, sparking criticism from various political figures and groups.

The comments were deemed racist and Islamophobic by the Labour Party, Conservative figures, and the Muslim Council of Britain. Khan himself condemned the remarks, stating that they only served to pour fuel on anti-Muslim hatred.

The suspension comes after Anderson refused to apologize for his comments, with the Conservative Party taking swift action to distance themselves from his statements. Anderson will now sit as an independent lawmaker in parliament.

In a separate but related development, pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside parliament during a vote on a ceasefire in Gaza. The Speaker of the lower house of parliament had to change the usual voting procedure due to threats of violence from the protesters.

Despite efforts by pro-Israeli voices to portray the pro-Palestinian movement as dangerous, a majority of British respondents support an end to Israel’s attack on Gaza. A survey showed that 29 percent of Britons believe the Conservative Party has a problem with Islamophobia.

Incidents of Islamophobia in the UK have tripled following the outbreak of violence between Israel and Hamas, with the largest number of cases recorded in a four-month period. The Tell MAMA monitoring group has reported a rise in anti-Muslim hate crimes and has called for political leaders to speak out against such incidents.
