YORK COUNTY, South Carolina – A suspect was found hours after searching for the attacker in a mass shooting incident in York County on Wednesday night that killed five people, including two children and a prominent doctor, authorities said.
The York County Police Office said the suspect was found in a nearby home. Further details about the suspect were not immediately released.
The York County Coroner’s Office said that Dr. Robert Leslie, 70, and his wife, Barbara Leslie, 69, were declared dead at the scene along with his grandchildren Ada Leslie, 9, and Noah Leslie, 5.
The fifth victim, James Lewis, 38, from Gastonia, was found dead abroad. Authorities said he was working at the house when he was hit.
The coroner said all five of the deaths had been sentenced to homicide.
A spokesman for the Mayor’s Office of York, Trent Faris, said that a sixth person was taken to hospital with “serious gunshot wounds.”
Faris said that around 4:45 pm, MPs were called to the house on Marshall Road in the Rock Hill area.
The Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the area and was able to see two medical helicopters and an ambulance responding to the scene before the representatives asked our helicopter to disembark.
Fares said, “We were shocked that this kind of incident happened here.” “It’s not happening here. It’s one of those weird things that a lot of people will find difficult to understand and we just hope everyone understands that we’re going to do everything we can to try to figure out why this is happening here in Rock Hill, South Carolina.”
The mayor’s office spent hours searching for the suspect before finding him. It is unclear when the suspect was found. He was not released in his name.
Shortly after the shooting, the York County Sheriff’s Office tweeted that investigators were looking for a man in a black hoodie and camouflage pants that was last seen in the area. Officials said it could be armed and dangerous, and residents should close their doors and stay inside.
Faris said that Leslie was a notable figure on Rock Hill.
Faris said, “I have lived all my life in Rock Hill and Dr. Leslie was my doctor as he grew up.” “Dr. Leslie was one of those people that everyone knows. It started with Riverview Medical Center in Rock Hill and has been a staple of Rock Hill for years.”

Dr. Robert Leslie has worked at Rock Hill since 1981, according to Riverview site. He earned his degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and worked in the surrounding Rock Hill and Charlotte, North Carolina area.
