The construction industry is considering stopping work after the huge increase of Petrobras – 03/10/2022 – Panel SA

after announcing Huge fuel increase by PetrobrasJose Carlos Martins, President of CBIC (Brazilian Chamber of the Construction Industry), said he had scheduled a meeting with industry leaders on Monday (14) to assess whether it was necessary to halt drilling work across the country.

This type of work is highly dependent on diesel oil and asphalt, another component provided by the state-owned company. “No one will bear the price hike,” Martins says.

Says that excavation work, unlike building a houseFor example, it requires less labor and more equipment such as trucks, patrols, and tractors that use fuel.

Last year, the price hike of asphalt triggered a wave of requests to renegotiate it Contractors contracts with the government.

“A few years ago, the business came to a halt when the price of asphalt skyrocketed. There were people who had 50% of the cost of asphalt. And it took two years to convince TCU and DNIT that they needed to adjust this business. A lot of people broke,” says Martins.

Another concern, he said, is that service providers’ contracts with the government can only be changed annually, meaning that those who have already adjusted in January and February will not be able to adjust for higher costs.
