The new data indicates that there is an unknown layer between Earth’s core and mantle

The complexity of our planet’s composition and structure requires a great deal of research and study. Currently, the scientific community agrees that the Earth has three main divisions, which are responsible for the various events that occur in our world.

Ancient formations are present in the Earth’s mantle and core

To begin with, it is necessary to understand the arrangement of the Earth’s strata, some more internal than others. The core is the innermost region of the planet, followed by the mantle and finally the crust which makes up the outermost part of the Earth.

There is a kind of boundary between the mantle and the core, with the mantle surrounding the core. Scientists often note the activities that take place in this area.

Recently, researchers have investigated strange movement of magma at this site, and have obtained remarkable results. Rocky structures have been discovered between the mantle and core that appear to have been there for millions of years.

These large formations resemble majestic mountains and may have been ancient components of the planet’s vast oceans. According to the discovery report, these rock structures are tens of kilometers thick.

To make this discovery, the researchers installed 15 networks of seismometers in Antarctica, which are responsible for collecting information about frequent seismic activities in our world. With these instruments, images of the planet’s interior have been generated, such as X-rays, allowing the composition to be determined.

The main benefit of this discovery is to obtain more information about the Earth’s core. Now, scientists have more data to understand the process of heat exchange and other interactions between Earth’s core and mantle.
