Responding to a question from ANSA at a news conference on Tuesday (31), US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said she did not see the Italian government’s peace plan but was aware of it and supported all efforts. The war launched by Russia in the territory of Ukraine from February 24 must end.

“We support every effort by anyone to find a peaceful solution acceptable to the Ukrainian people. And the Italian initiative is certainly one that we want to end the war and the horrific attack on Ukraine.” Diplomat, North American.

The Italian program was presented in New York on May 18 and offers a four-step study under the auspices of the “International Facility Committee”: a ceasefire, possible Ukrainian neutrality, regional issues (Crimea and Donbass) and a new European defense agreement.

The idea is to complete the project with a new multilateral agreement on peace and security in Europe. However, for the Russian government, the peace plan proposed by Italy is “very detached from reality” and cannot be taken lightly.

Today, US State Department spokesman Netflix stressed that the Kremlin’s initial goal was to “completely seize Ukrainian territory”, but that the Joe Biden administration was “particularly concerned about Russia’s moves to steal Ukraine’s sovereignty, particularly in the Kersen region.” .
