Turkey floods death toll rises to 62  Globalism

At least 62 people died from floods off the coast Turkey This Sunday (15). According to the local authorities, search and rescue efforts are continuing to find the missing people.

Heavy rain hit the Black Sea provinces of Bartin, Kastamonu and Sinop on Wednesday (11).

Of the 62 deaths recorded on Sunday, 52 were in Kastamonu district, 9 people died in Sinop and one in Barten, the Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) notified.

More than 2,000 people have been evacuated from the affected areas, some with the help of helicopters and boats.

Floods in the north and fires in the south

The floods have caused chaos in the provinces of northern Turkey as authorities face wildfires in the south of the country.

Leaders and political associations have called on the Turkish government to take drastic steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as they attribute these disasters to climate change.

Turkey has not ratified the 2015 Paris climate agreement, which set goals to be achieved to limit global warming.
