Ukrainian authorities report an attack on Odessa

Odessa, Ukraine (Reuters) – Local officials said on Sunday that Russian attacks destroyed an oil refinery in the central Ukrainian region of Poltava and damaged “critical infrastructure”, possibly a fuel depot near the port city of Odessa.
Odessa, located on the Black Sea coast, is an important port on the Black Sea and a major base for the Ukrainian Navy. It was the focus of Russian forces because, if captured, it would allow Moscow to build a land corridor into Transnistria, the breakaway Russian-speaking province of Moldova that houses Russian forces.
Dmytro Lunin, the governor of the Poltava region, said on television that the Kremenchug oil refinery was destroyed in a missile attack on Saturday. Kremenchug 350 kilometers (220 miles) northeast of Odessa.
“The fire in the refinery was put out, but the facility was completely destroyed and is no longer operating,” Lunin said.
