US diplomats complain Brazil has forgotten US support for democracy and Lula’s election | Waldo Cruz’s blog
2 min readBrazil is so close to China and Russia that it is too soon to forget US support for Brazilian democracy and the election of President Lula.
Given Brazil’s interventions with the Chinese and Russian governments and its criticism of the United States, American officials and diplomats have rated it in a complaining tone.
This Monday (17), the Brazilian government is set to receive Vladimir Putin’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in another move the US government sees as a pro-Russia stance.
The meeting is likely to further fuel American displeasure with Lula’s government.
On a tour of China and the United Arab Emirates, Lula made statements that displeased the United States. fish type:
- Strongly criticized the dominance of the dollar in international trade,
- Defending China in conflict with the US over Taiwan, and
- He ended an international tour blaming the US and Europe for Russia’s war in Ukraine, and said that victimized Ukraine was also responsible for the conflict.
And now, this Monday, Brazil will receive Lavro, which has been assessed by Joe Biden’s government as an imbalance in relations between the two countries.
US diplomats recall that Itamaratti has always been guided by “neutrality” in conflictual relations, but now, with Lula, it is aligning itself with Russia and China.
U.S. government officials should remember that when Bolsonaro launched coup attacks on Brazilian democracy and Lula questioned the election, the U.S. exposed itself and defended Brazil, apparently — China and Russia.
According to these officials, it shows how the Brazilian government is showing “ingratitude” to an ally that is essential in the fight for Brazilian democracy.
