In the morning session, Sergio Pérez, of RBR, was the fastest rider in the first part of the tests, with a time of 1m33s105. Who also made use of his time was the Chinese Guanyu Zhou. On the eve of his Formula 1 debut, he set the second time of the session, with a time of 1:33.959. Pierre Gasly, of AlphaTauri, was more than walked: the Frenchman recorded 91 laps.
Haas was given more extra time on the track due to the logistical delays she experienced while transporting her equipment to Bahrain and prevented her from testing on Thursday morning. So Kevin Magnussen was the first to hit the track. Problems with the Dane’s car resurfaced: he encountered water leaks during his laps.
As he left the driving lane for the track, Valtteri Bottas opened the final session of the Formula 1 pre-season, in Bahrain. It was a slower start, without much pressure. Defending champion Max Verstappen didn’t get out to the track until after more than an hour of testing. And it didn’t take long to jump to the top. On the medium tyres, the Dutchman scored 1m32s645 past his teammate’s mark, Perez.

The Finnish Alfa Romeo driver was about to complete a lap of about 1m32 before he stopped. The green flag cleared the track with about 30 minutes to go. Verstappen was in a hurry. The Dutch pilot flew and was the first to lose the time to 1min 31sec 973 on his first lap on the soft tyres, reclaiming the lead. Later, he lowered the mark even more, with a minute 31 seconds of 720.
