Woman’s body found in apartment two and a half years after death – Rádio Itatiaia
2 min readA woman’s body lay for two and a half years inside her apartment without anyone noticing that anything had happened. The case took place in London, England, and outraged residents of a building run by a housing association providing housing for people in financial difficulty. Information from the BBC.
According to the BBC, the association asked the government to pay the victim’s rent, and he agreed to the request without the authorities verifying whether the beneficiary was alive. So the rent has been paid for months.
Police found the skeleton of 58-year-old Secretary Sheila Sealion. She was wearing blue pajama bottoms and a white blouse. The initial suspicion is natural death. However, the residents plan to sue the association. This is because they consider it unacceptable for a person to die and spend nearly 3 years without anyone discovering the body.
The neighbors suspected something was wrong with the secretary. In August 2019, a resident went downstairs to change light bulbs and caterpillars fell from the ceiling.
“There were maggots in the bedroom, living room and bathroom. More or less all over my furniture,” she recalls. “You would sit on the couch and after a while you would find a squashed caterpillar,” she says. “It was like living in a horror movie,” a resident told the BBC.
Other residents reported contacting the association months after the death, but no effective action was taken.
And according to the BBC, Sheila paid the rent on time until her death. After that, the association tried to communicate with them by letter, e-mail and letters, but no employee went to the property to check what happened. He only asked that the government bear the payment.
The league told the BBC it was “devastated” by what happened to Sheila and was “transparent about what went wrong”.
