Despite offering a growing offering with hundreds of games to download, Xbox Game Pass failed to meet the subscriber growth target set by Microsoft itself throughout the 2021 fiscal year.

The company was expecting to see 48% growth in the number of active players, but last year brought only a 37% increase, far from what is needed. It is noteworthy that the fiscal year ended on June 30, so many analysts are of the opinion that the lack of triple-heavyweight releases may have affected the outcome.

Even without the major infinite aura, which ended up being pushed back to December 2021 and certainly spoiled the numbers, Microsoft had good reason to believe in better results because, in the previous year, it had set a growth target of 71%, however, it reached an astonishing 86% results!

Since the company doesn’t reveal its raw numbers, it’s hard to say how many people currently sign up for Xbox Game Pass. However, what is known is that service results are the only metric in the video game industry that has an impact on the payroll of Microsoft executives, including CEO Satya Nadella.

The company attaches so much importance to the performance of Xbox Game Pass that reward payments for service numbers are calculated in the same way as for the company’s main products such as Microsoft Teams.

Let’s hope more subscribers arrive in 2021 and the service continues to improve even more! Are you already an Xbox Game Pass subscriber? What do you think of your catalog? Let us know in the comments below!
