Honda Motor is issuing a massive recall in the United States, affecting over 2.5 million vehicles, due to a fuel pump defect that can result in engine failure or stalling while driving. The recall is focused on 2017-2020 Acura and Honda vehicles that have been equipped with fuel pump impellers that are improperly molded. This manufacturing flaw can lead to the development of low-density impellers that may deform over time and interfere with the fuel pump body.

The consequence of the defect is a potential engine that may not start or could stall while the vehicle is in motion. Such incidents greatly increase the risk of accidents and injuries on the road. Thankfully, no crash or injury reports have been received by Honda thus far.

To address the issue, Honda has decided to replace the fuel pumps in all affected vehicles at no charge. The company plans to start sending out owner notification letters in February, while dealer notification has already begun this week. To ensure clarity and ease for the customers, Honda and Acura have made available recall lookup platforms, as well as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, where drivers can check if their specific vehicle falls under the recall.

The recall encompasses various Honda models, including popular ones such as the Accord, Civic, CR-V, and Ridgeline. Additionally, Acura models, including the MDX, NSX, and TLX, are also affected.

In a separate announcement, Honda and the NHTSA revealed a recall of more than 106,000 2020-2022 CR-V hybrid vehicles. This recall is due to the absence of a fuse on the power circuit of the exterior 12-Volt battery cables, which can lead to short circuits or overheating in the event of a crash. It is crucial to address this issue promptly to prevent any potential hazards.

Honda owners are encouraged to utilize the available online platforms to determine if their vehicles are part of the recalls. It is highly recommended that affected owners promptly contact their local dealerships to schedule an appointment for the necessary replacements or repairs.
