EVERETT, Wash. - Three new cases of measles in children have been confirmed in Snohomish County, an ongoing outbreak, bringing the total number of cases to six.
What we know:
The latest case was confirmed on Tuesday, January 27, an unmarried child. Two additional cases of measles were found in an already isolated family due to a positive case in a sibling.
The Snohomish County Health Department declared a measles outbreak in the area weeks ago after three children tested positive, and the Visiting family was exposed from South Carolina.
Health officials said in the latest case, the boy attended a Sunday, Jan. 18 revival at the Slavic Christian Church in Mukilteo (4223 78 St. SW).and 18:00 on January 18 may be infected.
What they say:
Despite ongoing epidemics, the risk to the general public has decreased as more people have been vaccinated against measles. There are no new exposition sites in Snohomish County other than churches.
"Most people in our county are immune to measles through vaccination, so the risk to the public is low," said Snohomish County Health Officer Dr.James Lewis."The next two to three weeks will determine where the disease originated. Now is the time to know your immune status and stay up-to-date on vaccinations."
More cases are expected during the outbreak, and health officials believe some may be isolating at home and not seeking medical attention.
The public is encouraged to visit the Snohomish County Health Department’s Measles Dashboard for the latest information on new cases and exposure locations.
