Gabigol periods in Inter Milan and Benfica

Despite the individual titles and awards with the Flamengo shirt, Gabriel Barbosa was heavily criticized by some fans and commentators for an unsuccessful pass in European football.

His first international experience was at Inter Milan, in the 2016-2017 season, when he was just 20 years old. After the Rio Olympics, the Italian club obtained his permit from Santos for €25 million (about R$91 million at the time). Even with the high investment, the striker did not gain space among the hosts and only played 10 matches and scored one goal for Milan.

In search of more minutes on the field, Gabigol was loaned to Benfica in August 2017. With the Portuguese team, another bad experience. In Encarnados, he even played matches in the Champions League, but again he did not prove himself and left the club less than six months later with only one goal in four matches.

In January 2018, Gabriel returned to Santos, also on loan, and was the top scorer in the Brazilian Camponato (18 goals) and the Copa del Rey (four goals) that year. At the beginning of the following season, Inter presented (and later sold) the number 9 shirt to Flamengo.

Gabigol scored 116 goals and provided 35 assists in 166 matches for Robro Negro. Since then, he’s won the Copa Libertadores, two Campionato Brasileros, one Recopa Sudamericana, two Supercopa do Brasil, and three Campionato Carriocas.

Hulk Passes through Porto and Zenit

Hulk arrived in Porto in 2008, after several seasons in Japanese football. In The Dragons, the striker played alongside stars such as Radamel Falcao and James Rodríguez and lived through what for many was the pinnacle of his career. He scored 79 goals and provided 61 assists in 169 matches for the club.

The shirt 7 was a highlight of Porto’s 2010-11 UEFA Europa League title. This was the last European Championship won by a Portuguese club.

In the same season, Hulk was elected the best player and best scorer in the Portuguese championship.

A year later, he won the competition prize again. In all, the athlete was a Portuguese champion on four occasions and won three Portuguese Cups and three Portuguese Super Cups.

In 2012, Hulk was sold to Zenit, of Russia, for about €60 million (153 million RRL at the time). In his four-year term at the club, the striker won the Russian Championship, the Russian Cup and the Russian Super Cup. He was named the country’s best player in 2015.

The Brazilian scored 76 goals and provided 60 assists in 148 matches for Saint Petersburg. In January 2021, Hulk was voted by fans as the best foreign player in the history of Russian football. After four years in Shanghai SIPG, China, he returned to Brazil last year.

The striker has already scored 49 goals and distributed 15 assists in 81 matches in the Atlético shirt. Hulk was elected as the top scorer of the Brazilian Championship in 2021. He has already won the Campeonatos Mineiros, Supercopa do Brasil, Copa do Brasil and Série A awards for Galo.
