Pro-Russian separatist group says more than 50 civilians have left Azovstal, Ukraine and Russia
2 min readThe regional defense headquarters of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic said on Saturday that more than 50 people left Azovstal steel plants in the city of Mariupol on Friday (6).
The civilians were sent to a reception center near Bizimen, in the breakaway republic, whose forces are fighting alongside Russian forces to expand their control over much of Eastern Europe. Ukraine.
Dozens of civilians have been stranded for weeks along with the remaining Ukrainian forces still in the frequently bombed steel mills.
So far, the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross have helped about 500 civilians flee the area during two operations last week. “I hope that continued coordination with Moscow and Kiev will lead to more humanitarian pauses to allow civilians to pass safely from the fighting and to get aid to those who need it most.
