Pioneer of the Oddity Movement (Movement to Advance LGBTQIA+ Artists to the Rural Landscape), The artist talks about his career and his relationship with his father, Solimos, who works with the Rio Negro.
In an interview with Patrícia Kogut’s column, Gabeu and his friend Gali Galo (actors of queernejo – a sub-genre of the musical style that represents diversity) celebrated the good stage, as the duo participated in the Globoplay series.
The singer talks about the operation To tell his family he was gay at the age of 16. “At the time, due to getting older, this happened in a restrictive way. Today, at 24, I have more confidence to deal with it without taboo and without fear. We talk more openly about these things. Like any father-son relationship, because of the difference in generations. There are issues that are difficult for him to understand and that sometimes lead to clashes.”
In search of representation within the musical genre, artists invest in producing songs that address gender and association with origins within each one. “To this day, I don’t even know if he understands exactly the concept of Queernejo or what all those terms mean. But the truth is that it doesn’t matter so much that he understands, but rather that he represents a father figure who welcomes and does not refuse.”
Gabeu launched last year, album “Agropoc” and he is happy to know that music makes him more united with his father.
