Portland police declare riot as protesters break windows on the year of George Floyd’s assassination
1 min readPortland police announced a riot on Tuesday amid a devastating city demonstration marking the one-year anniversary of the assassination of George Floyd.
About 200 people gathered Tuesday night outside the Multnoma County Justice Center. Some in the crowd set off firecrackers and a dumpster island, marked the Justice Center with graffiti and smashed windows at nearby Portland City Hall.
Some threw water bottles and crackers directly at police officers.
Police A riot was declared at 10 p.m.
The marchers then smashed windows in places including a Jewelery and precious metals business, Starbucks stores, Credit union and Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
Police said they made an unspecified number of arrests.
A separate demonstration took place earlier on Tuesday A rally at the Revolution Hall in southeastern Portland, A parade on the Burnsite Bridge and a quiet seat.
Tuesday marked the one-year anniversary of the murder of Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer, which sparked an unprecedented drive to address black anti-racism across the country.
The murder, captured on video, touched on waves of anti-racial justice across the country and around the world, with protests in Portland spreading over 100 consecutive nights.
