Wild Persian crocodile caught Bangladesh – And it was believed that the species became extinct in the country, the authorities announced on Tuesday (9).

It is believed that this freshwater animal may have reached Bangladesh via the 2,500 km long Ganges, which enters Bangladesh from India.

Crocodylus palustris was last seen in the wild in this country half a century ago.

This species is still found in India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Its global population is estimated at between 5,400 and 7,100 individuals, according to researchers.
