The advisor held more than 50 bilateral meetings in two months

Within two months, the foreign minister, Mauro Vieira, held more than 50 bilateral meetings with representatives of other countries.

The chancellor’s intense agenda is to restore Brazil’s position in international relations, a demand of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (Workers’ Party), after four years of turbulent dialogue between the government of Jair Bolsonaro and other countries.

In about 60 days, Mauro Vieira met, in Brazil and abroad, with diplomats from France, Russia, Spain, the United Kingdom, Canada, Argentina, Mexico, Germany, Japan, and Switzerland, among other countries.

He also met envoys from the European Union, the United Nations and the World Health Organization, among other international organisations.

When appointed to head the Itamamaraty, Mauro Vieira received an order from Lula to re-establish diplomatic bridges between the country and other nations, in order to elevate Brazil to the position of champion in international discussions.

On the other hand, sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs claim that there has been an increase in demand from Brazil by other countries this year.

This month, Lula should go to China, where he will meet with President Xi Jinping. Batista has already traveled to Argentina, Uruguay and the United States in recent months.

Last week, Minister Mauro Vieira was in New Delhi, India, for a meeting of advisors to the Group of Twenty, a group formed by the world’s 20 largest economies. There, the Secretary personally met with United States Secretary Anthony Blinken.

During the meeting, the two diplomatic representatives addressed issues such as bilateral trade relations between the United States and Brazil, as well as combating deforestation and Brazil’s role in the search for a solution in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

In addition to meetings in Brazil and abroad, telephone conversations are also highlighted on the agenda.
