How does Unreal Engine 5 work? Check out our Layers of Fear comparison

It’s been a long time since Epic Games unveiled its newest engine, Unreal Engine 5. Delivering an amazing and promising advance to the gaming scene, this new graphics engine surprised with higher visual quality and available technologies than what was available in the market.

Few titles so far have benefited from the engine, but today, June 15th, we had our first major third-party release in Unreal Engine 5. Layers of Fear completely recreated the franchise in this new graphics engine.

With the game already available, ElAnalistadeBits took the opportunity to compare the game’s performance in the new Epic Games engine. The recently published video not only shows the evolution of the game in relation to the original, but also the performance on different platforms.

It is possible to notice a significant improvement in the game over the original game, especially when it comes to lighting, which has received a significant upgrade thanks to the Lumen technology of Unreal Engine 5. Textures and modeling have also undergone significant changes.

In terms of console performance, the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 both feature a quality mode that runs at 2160p/30fps, with resolution rebuilding from 1800p dynamic and featuring Ray-Tracing. Performance mode delivers 2160p/60fps, with resolution rebuilt from 1440p dynamic. Meanwhile, the value-for-money Xbox Series S console only has one mode available, running at 1440p/60fps, with resolution rebuilding from 1080p dynamic.
