WhatsApp now lets you mute unknown calls; See how it works | technology
1 min readOn Tuesday (20), WhatsApp announced a new feature that allows users to silence incoming calls from unknown numbers within the app. The company said the novelty will be available “starting this week.”
According to WhatsApp, muted calls will not cause your cell phone to ring, but they will be visible in the call list. “The feature automatically helps exclude spam, fraud and calls from unknown people to provide greater protection,” WhatsApp said.
On the privacy screen of the app, an option will appear where unwanted calls can be blocked. See how it works:
- On an iPhone, from the app’s home screen, tap “settings” (gear sign). On Android, tap the three dots;
- Then go to “Privacy”;
- tap on “calls” and activate the function “Mute Unknown People”.
WhatsApp has also introduced Privacy Check, a function that allows the user to check and configure their privacy in the messaging app.
The company said, “The ‘Start verification’ option in your privacy settings will take you through several layers of privacy that enhance the security of your messages, calls, and personal information.
