Shiv Seeks New PS5 Pro Enhanced Mode In Games – Report

Sony is rumored to be pushing game developers to create an exclusive graphics mode for its alleged PlayStation 5 Pro model, according to sources familiar with the matter. The mode is said to combine Sony’s new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technology with 4K resolution capabilities, 60 frames per second gameplay, and ray-tracing features.

Games that offer this mode will reportedly be labeled as “Enhanced” on the PS5 Pro, even if they run at 30 frames per second. The label will also be available for games with fixed resolutions on the original PS5 if developers increase the target resolution specifically for the PS5 Pro. Additionally, games with variable resolutions can boost their maximum target resolution to qualify for the “Enhanced” label.

Simply enabling ray-tracing without improving resolution or framerate is said to be sufficient to earn the label. However, games that only run at a more stable framerate on the PS5 Pro won’t receive the label, nor will games with variable resolutions that don’t enhance the maximum resolution.

Developers will need to update their games to Sony’s software development kit (SDK) in order to utilize this new graphics mode. However, there are reports suggesting that some games will see improved performance on the PS5 Pro even without the updates.

While rumors have been circulating about a potential PS5 Pro release later this year, Sony has not officially confirmed or commented on these reports. As of now, the company has remained tight-lipped about any plans for a PS5 Pro model. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
