Brazilian fans of electric cars can now buy one of Tesla’s most beloved models for R $ 600,000. The Model Y, which sells for $ 65,000 (R $ 315) in the United States, arrives in Brazil ready to run for US $ 115,000, having registered with all import taxes and official agencies.

Daniel Valerio, owner of Direct Imports, one of the companies that specializes in importing Tesla into Brazil, argues that today the import process is done faster, digitally, and on behalf of the buyer. “Tax cuts for electric cars are also an attraction and the demand for Tesla is increasing,” he told Bloomberg.

According to him, 13 vehicles were imported last year, but there are already orders for another 25 cars, and the company aims to bring in at least 50 units by the end of this year.

Sales of electric and hybrid vehicles increased by 77.2% from 2020 to 2021, reaching a record 34,990 units, according to the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE). This includes a total of 2,851 trams.

Considering only Tesla, which has no official representation in Brazil, Neocharge, a charging infrastructure company for electric vehicles, has sold 122 Tesla cars in our country since 2015. Worldwide, Tesla has sold more than two million units since its inception in 2003.
