The Minister of State for Health (CISA) reported on Wednesday (15) that the first suspected case of the new smallpox was in Espiritu Santo. This is a 44-year-old foreign man, captain of a Singaporean navy ship moored in the state. The case is investigated by Sesa.

In addition to the state, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) is also monitoring the case. So far, there are no new suspects on board.

According to the secretary, the patient reported onset of symptoms on June 9. According to the man, he suddenly developed a fever and rash that spread throughout his body within 48 hours. However, he has reported not having contact with people who are suspected or confirmed to have the disease.

On Wednesday (15) the man was admitted to an isolated area of ​​a private hospital in Grand Vitoria and is in good general condition. The material was collected for sending to the reference laboratory at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
