Tragedy Strikes Townsville as Father Dies from Snake Bite While Trying to Remove Snake

Townsville is mourning the loss of Jerromy Brookes, a 47-year-old father of three who tragically died from a snake bite while trying to remove an eastern brown snake from a childcare center. Brookes, who was not a qualified snake catcher, went into cardiac arrest at his Deeragun home after being bitten and despite CPR and hospital treatment, he could not be saved.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has launched an investigation into the incident, raising questions about why Brookes attempted such a dangerous removal. His wife, who performed CPR on him before paramedics arrived, is now left to raise their three children alone.

The Queensland Ambulance Service is urging people to treat all snake bites as venomous and apply basic first aid while waiting for help. Authorities emphasize the importance of staying calm and seeking immediate medical attention in case of a snake bite.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by snakes, especially the highly venomous eastern brown snake. Brookes is believed to be the first person to die from a snake bite in Australia this year, following two deaths from suspected eastern brown snake bites last year.

As Townsville grieves the loss of Jerromy Brookes, our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
