Guardiola postpones the first appearance of Haaland and Manchester City win the United States in a friendly match | international football
2 min readThis Wednesday wasn’t where Haaland made his debut Manchester. The Norwegian striker, who is the club’s main reinforcement for next season, did not leave the bench in the 2-1 win over Mexican America, in Houston.
This was Manchester City’s first pre-season friendly. Expectations were swirling around Haaland’s debut, but coach Pep Guardiola decided not to use him. In addition to the Norwegian, only the Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson was not on the field among the main players of the team.

Instead, Guardiola has promoted to three debuts: goalkeeper Ortega, striker Julian Alvarez and former River Plate and former Leeds midfielder Calvin Phillips, who played in the center of defence.
Alvarez started in charge of the attack, kept stealthy performance and went blank. When he left the field in the second half, he made way for 19-year-old Manchester City striker Liam Delap, when much of the field was waiting for Haaland to enter.
In the absence of the new star, the established Manchester City star shone. Midfielder Kevin De Bruyne scored both goals in the win, while Martin fell for America.

If Haaland did not play, who participated in the friendly match was the 19-year-old Brazilian striker Kiki. Signed from Fluminense in 2021, the boy played in the last 15 minutes of the friendly.
And Manchester City returns to the field next Saturday, when it faces Bayern Munich in the city of Green Bay, which is still in the United States. It will be a new opportunity to follow Haaland’s potential debut for the English club.
