How do I know if I’ve been lost and what do I do after it’s gone?

You are flirting with someone. The conversation is flowing well, everything is building into something more serious. Suddenly … the person disappears. Congratulations, your ghost has just been obliterated.

Lack of interest in your life, delay in response and sudden disappearance of your partner are the three main signs that you are suffering from ghosting.

According to a survey conducted by the “Par Perfeito” app with 3,200 singles, nearly half of the respondents (47%) said they had already been ghosted.

The word comes from the English “stealth”, from ghost. The expression has become popular in recent years due to the increased use of relationship and messaging apps, which has facilitated this sudden disappearance. We spoke to psychologist Solen Souza to gather her tips on the matter.

The first step to overcoming “getting lost” is realizing that you’ve been ghosted. Is the “like” gone? Did it take days to respond? Don’t see your messages or posts on social networks? Yes…it happens!

For many people, the pain of ghosting is almost as strong as, say, a breakup. This is because, in many cases, we need to sever (abruptly) the relationship we used to have.

Remember: most of the time you don’t really know the person. vice versa. Stopping idealizing the partner is important in this process.

Let time take care of the pain. Do not ask him for an answer and do not ask him for an answer. If deleting or blocking the contact from social networks will work for you, move on. Nobody will judge you.

Instead of falling into the temptation to message the contact, talk about it with friends. They will certainly open your eyes to what is happening.

“Dealing with the insecurities of ghosting takes patience and support from friends. Seek a psychologist if that doesn’t help. Ghosting messes with the self-esteem of those who ‘remained,’ and people tend to question themselves,” says Suellen. Without a doubt, it is not easy.
