Gloria Chavez, chief of the Border Patrol in the El Paso sector of Texas, posted three photos on Twitter of the men wearing so-called “Gilly Suits,” which use long fibers or sheets that resemble the environment.
“People who enter the United States illegally often use unusual tactics to avoid detection,” Chavez said in the news release.
The corporation’s president also credited field agents in El Paso and Santa Teresa (New Mexico) for “intercepting three gilly-clad migrants to blend into the desert landscape of southern New Mexico.”
Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 2.2 million undocumented immigrants in the south and southwest of the country last October, when the 2022 fiscal year began, through July of this year.
Agents in the El Paso field made 228,952 arrests of undocumented immigrants from the start of the fiscal year through July.
Although agents found immigrants from other countries, most were Mexican, Honduran, Salvadoran and Guatemalan.
