Israeli Defence Minister Reveals Post-War Gaza Blueprint

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has presented a comprehensive plan for the post-war administration of the Gaza Strip. With hostilities still ongoing, the plan outlines that neither Hamas nor Israel will govern the territory once the conflict concludes.
Gallant’s plan includes several key objectives, such as securing the return of hostages held by Hamas, dismantling the militant group’s military and governing capabilities, and removing any remaining military threats. Once these goals are achieved, local Palestinian bodies will assume governance of Gaza.
While Israel reserves the right to operate inside the territory, there will be no Israeli civilian presence once the objectives of the war are accomplished. However, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has called for Israeli settlers to return to Gaza after the war and encouraged the emigration of the Palestinian population. Under Gallant’s plan, Gaza residents will be governed by Palestinian bodies on the condition that there are no hostile actions against Israel. However, Washington has suggested that Gaza be governed by a revitalized Palestinian Authority based in the West Bank.
Palestinian Authority prime minister Mohammad Shtayyeh has emphasized the need for a political solution that encompasses all of Palestine, not just Gaza. He believes that a comprehensive and inclusive approach is required to achieve lasting peace in the region.
Gallant’s plan comes just before the visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who will be pressing for humanitarian aid for Gaza and working to prevent any further regional escalation. Blinken’s visit will be crucial in determining the international response to the ongoing conflict and ensuring the well-being of the people affected by the violence.
