Lula leaves for England to participate in the coronation of King Charles III | Policy

President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva left Thursday evening (4) for England to participate in the coronation of King Charles III in London, which will take place on Saturday (6). Forecasts indicate that the president will land in the British capital on Friday morning (5).

Until Friday, the Brazilian president will hold a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. According to the federal government, the two sides will talk about trade between the two countries, technological cooperation and environmental issues. There are no plans to sign new bilateral agreements at this time.

In London, Lula will also attend a reception hosted by the British royal family at Buckingham Palace, the monarch’s official residence, on Friday night.

Charles III and Queen Camilla will be crowned on Saturday morning from 10am in Westminster Abbey. The ceremony will be officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, a senior official in the Church of England.

After the ceremony, Lula will participate in a reserved meeting, at the invitation of the king, along with other heads of state who will be in London for the festivities.

The federal government sees President Lula’s trip to the UK as part of the relaunch of Brazilian diplomatic relations since the president’s inauguration in January. Since taking office, Lula has visited Argentina, Uruguay, the United States, China, the United Arab Emirates, Portugal and Spain and has met many world leaders in Brazil and abroad.

According to the government, the UK also supports Brazil’s bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

Later this month, the British Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, is scheduled to visit Brazil for the sixth strategic dialogue between the foreign ministers of the two countries.

The United Kingdom is currently the 20th country to which Brazil exports the most products (3.7 billion USD) and also the 20th in the order of imports from the Brazilian market (2.8 billion USD), in total trade flow worth $6.5 billion.

The United Kingdom is also one of the largest investors in Brazil in sectors such as oil and gas, finance and transportation. The value of the stock of investments amounted to 36 billion dollars. Brazil also invests in the United Kingdom (stock of more than 5 billion US dollars).
