Shiv Telegram Media: Jaishankar to Meet Blinken Amid India-Canada Diplomatic Row

Title: Indian External Affairs Minister to Meet US Secretary of State Amidst Diplomatic Dispute with Canada

Indian External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, is scheduled to meet with US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, on Thursday as the diplomatic rift between India and Canada deepens. The agenda of the meeting has not been disclosed by officials, but it is expected to address the recent crisis between Canada and India over the killing of a Khalistani separatist.

The meeting gains significant importance as the United States has been pressuring India to cooperate in the Canadian investigation into the killing of Sikh separatist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, previously accused the Indian government of being involved in the assassination. In retaliation, India denied the allegations and expelled a senior Canadian diplomat, heightening tensions between the two nations.

India has urged Canada to take strong action against terrorists and anti-India elements operating from its soil, further straining relations. Notably, the issue was not discussed during the recent Quad ministerial meeting held in New York.

Minister Jaishankar’s visit to the US capital comes after his participation in the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York. Apart from his meeting with Secretary Blinken, Jaishankar is expected to hold discussions with other senior officials of the Biden administration. He will also review the progress made between the two countries since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s State Visit in June.

Alongside official talks, Jaishankar will also engage with the diaspora, think-tank community, and corporate leaders to strengthen ties and seek opportunities for cooperation.

The outcome of the meeting between Jaishankar and Blinken will provide valuable insights into the stance of the US on the India-Canada dispute and shed light on the future course of action the two countries may take to address the diplomatic crisis.

As the tension continues to simmer, many will be watching to see whether the meeting brings any progress towards resolving the issues between India and Canada.
