Denver goalie Matt Davis was the hero of the night as he made a stunning stop in front of the net to secure a 2-0 victory over No. 1 overall seed Boston College in the NCAA men’s Frozen Four championship. This win marked Denver’s 10th national championship in program history.
Jared Wright and Rieger Lorenz scored second-period goals for Denver, while Davis had an impressive 35 saves and 23 third-period saves in his third shutout of the season. The team finished the season on a nine-game win streak, surpassing Michigan for the most titles of all time.
Denver dominated their opponents in the second period throughout the season, outscoring them 82-39. The victory also snapped Boston College’s 15-game win streak and marked the first time they were shut out since March 11, 2023.
This win was a sweet redemption for Denver, as they had previously beaten Boston College 4-3 in their only regular-season matchup back in October. Coach David Carle praised the team’s effort and pride in their program for their continued success.
The Pioneers have now won at least 30 games in three consecutive seasons, solidifying their status as a powerhouse in college hockey. With this championship win, Denver has once again proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with on the ice.
