The car is invaded by the bear, who drinks 69 cans of soda
3 min readNewspaper New York Post On Thursday, I reported (20) one of the most unusual cases in recent times. A Canadian black bear broke into a car to “steal” and drink 69 cans of soft drink.
According to the Jam Press news agency, which reported the case directly, the animal broke into the car of Canadian Sharon Russell, who was parked near her home, in a forested area in the city of Vancouver, Canada.
Sharon published pictures of the damage to the bear, which led to the destruction of part of the body of her car to reach the box in which the drinks were. In the photos it is also possible to see dozens of soda cans completely destroyed.
The woman says she stored 72 soda cans in her car for a trip. However, she was awakened in the middle of the night by the barking of her dogs, who were trying to scare off the invading bear.
When observing from a distance, Roussel recalls, the animal could still be seen attacking his car. In addition to the dented bodywork, the bear broke a window and destroyed part of the car’s upholstery.
Most of those taken by Sharon were taken the morning after the attack, when the woman was finally able to approach and examine the damage to her car.
In another report, Sharon Russell said that the black bear that had damaged her car looking for soft drinks still returned the next night, but seeing that he wasn’t going to get anything, quickly left.
But why did the bear attack the car?
Living in a relatively remote area, Sharon told Jam Press, she never leaves litter or food scraps near her home, specifically to avoid the presence of bears.
However, the woman says that this situation completely surprised her, because she never imagined that a bear could smell soda cans inside a car.
To understand the condition, it is necessary to keep in mind that an adult bear’s sense of smell is about seven times stronger than that of a hunting dog. In contrast, hounds can have a sense of smell 10 to 20 times more acute than a human.
On its website, the NGO Sunshine Coast Bear Alliance, which promotes bear defense and conservation work in North America, best explains the strong scent of this animal.
“Bears can be attracted to the slightest scent in your car, like candy wrapper or scented air freshener,” he reveals. The NGO recommends that “car windows be kept shut and closed and doors closed to avoid damage or a sudden encounter.”
A similar case to that of Sharon Russell occurred in 2021 in Colorado, United States. On this occasion, another black bear rammed into a car to try to get some beer bottles, but to no avail.
In addition to not being able to reach the crate that stored the drinks, the animal was also unable to get out of the car very easily, causing it to destroy the interior of the car.
After several attempts, the bear managed to get out of the car and destroyed the lock and window of one of the car’s doors.
