The couple eat 12 hamburgers, cheat and dare to become a police case
3 min readPolice are looking for a couple accused of eating dozens of hamburgers in a restaurant, they refused to pay and simply ran away.
The case occurred on February 5, when two customers who visited the Bite Me Burger restaurant in Marlborough, UK, and asked to participate in the “Hamburger Challenge”, where customers who managed to eat 12 snacks in six minutes get a free meal. .
However, after the team explained that the challenge had to be booked in advance, the couple ordered dozens of burgers anyway and refused to pay after eating them all.
Simon Whitton, the restaurant’s owner, told the press that customers owed him £174. “We do something called the hamburger challenge, which is a game where you can eat 12 hamburgers in six minutes, that’s our bill,” he explained. “But to participate, the client must make an appointment in advance, as we have to be on time right.”
“These guys said they wanted to do the challenge, but it was Saturday night, we were too busy and didn’t have the staff and time for that. So we said they unfortunately couldn’t participate. However, they still ordered 12 burgers and he said he wanted to do the challenge. And we explained that “Sorry, that wouldn’t be possible,” Wheaton added.
On the other hand, the owner of the facility stated that the couple was not prevented from ordering 12 hamburgers if they wanted, because it simply wouldn’t be part of the challenge.
When it came time to pay, they insisted that the restaurant pay the bill, as they seemed to complete the challenge even if they weren’t supervised, as CCTV footage proves that they took more than six minutes to snack on.
When confronted by the staff, the couple quickly got up from the table and fled the scene. Simon Whiton said, “The staff made it clear again that we had to time it. They argued with the waitress about it, she went to call the manager and when he arrived they left.” “So I called them and said, ‘Look, you owe me this money, please come back and pay.'” But they hung up after they threatened to insult the restaurant on social media.”
In addition to the default setting, the couple appears to have cheated on the challenge, as they did not eat their 12 hamburgers on time. “Later, I checked the timing on the CCTV footage and it was clear they hadn’t eaten a burger within six minutes even though it wasn’t prearranged.”
Wheaton then called the police, even though he knew the authorities wouldn’t take up much of the case. According to him, even knowing that he will not receive compensation or compensation for the damages caused to his company, it was a matter of principle to prevent two violators from getting away with it, after the difficulties the restaurant faced during the Covid-19 pandemic. .
In a press release, the Wiltshire Police Department said: “We are now investigating this as a theft and will ask anyone with information to contact us.”
