The President of America comments on Sudamericana’s “group of death”.
2 min readAmerica’s president, Alensar da Silveira Jr., assessed the difficulties the team is facing in Group F of the Copa Sudamericana, which includes Peñarol from Uruguay. Defensa y Justicia from Argentina; and Millonarios from Colombia. The draw took place on Monday (27), at the CONMEBOL headquarters, in Luque, Paraguay.
“We don’t pick an opponent and we know how tough the international competition can be. We’ll stand a chance of not being spoiled with travel like we did last year.”
Alencar da Silveira highlights the tradition of Peñarol, five-time Libertadores champion, and claims to have accompanied Millonarios, overtaken by Atlético in the third phase of the main championship of the continent.
“Penarol has a shirt and a heavyweight. Every game is difficult. We had the chance to see Millonarios against Atlético. I think now we know our opponents and we will start working and look for good competition”.
In the group stage, América faced rivals Atlético. Tolima from Colombia; Independiente del Valle, from Ecuador. In six games, the team only added two points and ended up being eliminated.
