The United States is assessing whether Russia committed war crimes, but has not yet reached a conclusion, with the White House saying on Friday that the Russian attack on a nuclear plant in Ukraine was the “peak of irresponsibility”.
White House spokesman Zhen Zaki said the U.S. government was already investigating Russian war crimes based on evidence of Russian attacks on civilians before Moscow attacked one of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities on Thursday.
The White House has said it does not recommend regime change in Russia
A spokesman for President Joe Biden said Friday that the White House did not support regime change in Russia, following a call by Russians to assassinate President Vladimir Putin.
“We do not recommend the death of a foreign leader or regime change. This is not US policy,” White House spokeswoman Zhen Zhao told reporters.
Senator Lindsay Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, referred to Putin and called on someone in Russia to “take him out.”
