Tourists attack a restaurant employee who asked for proof of vaccination in New York

A video circulated on social media shows the moment when three women attacked the receptionist at Carmine Restaurant in New York, USA, after she asked for proof of their vaccination against Covid-19, which is required in the city. The pictures show the general fighting at the entrance to the place, with slaps and punches. Some people stop and try to sort out the confusion. A man grabs one of the assailants, lifts her off the ground, and takes her away from the fight.

According to information from the New York Post, the three customers will be from Texas. After the fighting subsided, a woman who identified herself as the director of the establishment escorted the other two to the sidewalk. “She needs to be fired,” said one of those involved in the fight, referring to the receptionist, as NBC reported.

The victim was 24 and told police he had multiple bruises and a broken collar. The accident occurred around 17:00 on Thursday (16) local time. According to the New York Post, the incident came after a discussion about the legality of the women’s vaccination records. The city requires people over the age of 12 to provide proof of vaccination to enter restaurants.

Officers told the newspaper that the three assailants were Sally Richelle Lewis, 49, Kaita Nkenji Rankin, 44, and Tuni Keshai Ranking, 21, who were charged with assault and criminal damage, but were released without bail. In an official note, the restaurant expressed its regret for what had happened. “It is a tragic situation when one of our employees is attacked for doing their job.”
The in-meal vaccination requirement went into effect on August 17, and enforcement, which includes a fine of up to $1,000 for the first offense, went into effect last Monday (13).
