US viewers grew 61.3% in November
2 min readThe National Office of Travel and Tourism (NTDO) recently released data showing that the total number of international visitors to the United States in November 2022 was 4,601,142, an increase of 61.3% compared to November 2021. 75.5% in November 2022. Pre-Covid viewership in November 2019 was down 76.8% from the previous month.
November 2022 was the 20th consecutive month that total non-foreign international arrivals to the United States increased year-over-year (YOY). Among the top 20 countries generating U.S. tourists, only Colombia (with 68,061 visitors), Ecuador (with 34,877 visitors) and the Dominican Republic (with 36,068 visitors) reported a decrease in visitor numbers in November 2022. 2021, with variations of -17.6%, -11.9% and -7.4% respectively.
The largest number of international visitors came from Canada (1,472,487), Mexico (1,187,654), the United Kingdom (281,585), Brazil (109,991) and Germany (107,846). Combined, these top five source markets account for 68.7% of total international arrivals.
International departures from the US
- The 6,661,750 U.S. citizen international visitor departures from the United States increased 41% compared to November 2021 and accounted for 92% of total departures in pre-pandemic November 2019.
- November 2022 was the 20th consecutive month in which total international visitor departures of US citizens from the US increased on a year-over-year basis.
- Year-to-date (YTD) through November 2022, total U.S. citizen international visitors departing from the U.S. reached 72,873,660, a year-over-year increase of 69.3%. YTD market share for North America (Mexico and Canada) was 53% and overseas 47%.
- Mexico recorded the highest number of visitors at 2,972,219 (44.6% of total departures in November and 41.6% year-to-date). [YTD]) Canada posted a 103.8% annual increase in November.
- Year-to-date, Mexico (30,305,079) and the Caribbean (8,258,059) accounted for 52.9% of total U.S. citizen international visitor departures, an increase of 0.2 percentage points year-to-date in October 2022.
- Outbound visitors from the US to Europe increased by 89.9% in November compared to November 2021. Europe was the second largest market for outbound US visitors in the first eleven months of 2022, with 14,555,105 year-to-date. During that time, visitors from the US to Europe increased by 217% and accounted for 20% of all departures.
