On Saturday, the 45-year-old pop star took to social media to celebrate the milestone while also sharing the dark side of alcoholism, which nearly "prevented" her from pursuing her dreams.
"8 years ago I decided to face, admit and walk with the selfishness of my life."

"Alcohol silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams and turned fear into complacency," he continued."Today I am clear. Today I am guided by faith. Fear and faith are both things we feel and maybe we don't see. I am so happy that I chose faith over fear. I found my strength not in fighting, but in surrendering."

Earlier this year, Simpson shared that her spirits were affecting her weight gain and she was "a little scared" when it came to drinking.
"Around 2016, I will be writing with some of the greatest travel writers in Los Angeles."All the time I was writing, I was afraid of myself. It was a lot, especially because I was at the time."
"But when I gave up alcohol, the fears subsided a lot. They disappeared. It was very easy for me to enter myself artistically," he continued.

"I thought a lot when I drank," he added."It was about hitting the record. Right now, that's the formula.This is a formula. This is a formula. This is something I wanted to break. If something didn't want to hit. I didn't hit something. I'm not that record.
Simpson has been open about her journey of self-discovery, especially since splitting from ex-husband Eric Johnson.
Simpson revealed in January that she had separated from Johnson after 10 years of marriage.At the time, she shared that she had not revealed any information about Johnson's timeline for the couple's "separate life."
"Eric and I live separately and are going through a painful situation in our marriage," Simpson said in a statement to People magazine.
"Our children come first and we focus on what is best for them. We are grateful for all the love and support that has come our way.

In 2023, Simpson took to social media to celebrate his six years of sobriety.The original post featured a photo of Simpson taken on November 1, 2017, the day he decided to get sober — he said his last drink was on Halloween night that year.
Simpson captioned the original post: "In the early morning hours of November 1st, 2017, this person is an unrecognizable version of me. I had a lot of personal discovery to unlock and explore."
“I know in this moment that I will allow myself to reclaim my light, demonstrate victory over my self-worth battle, and challenge this world with profound clarity,” she continued.
"I wanted to feel the pain so I could wear it as a badge of honor," she continued."I wanted to live as a leader and break cycles to move forward - never to look back with regret and remorse for every choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here in this beautiful world."

"There is so much stigma around the word alcoholism. The real work I had to do in my life was to embrace failure, pain, brokenness and self-harm," he said."Drinking didn't matter. I. I didn't love myself. I didn't respect my strength. Today I am."
