GM Brian Cashman provides updates on the Yankees heading into the winter meetings.Read more at MLB Trade Rumors.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman spoke to reporters on Sunday, offering updates on some key free agents and discussing roster plans for 2026. Free agent outfielder Cody Bellinger remains a hot topic of conversation, and Cashman reiterated that the team wants him back next season.
"Codellinger is a good fit for us," Cashman said (H/T Bryan Hoch Mlb.com)."I think he's a great fit for anybody. I think he can play multiple positions at a very high level and play loud, and I think the environment was great for him."
Bellinger has been linked to the Yankees all offseason.A report from Jon Heyman of New York reports that the League of Legends is looking at free agents if they can't make Bellinger. For what it's worth, Cashman said that Tucker didn't visit the Yankees in Tampa in Tampa (brought by Hoch). The old timer recently stopped by the blue jays' location in Dunedin.
Bellinger, 30, opted out of his contract in early November and hit the open market after a strong first season in the Bronx.Last year he hit .272/.334/.480 with 29 homers and 13 stolen bases.Bellinger has one year left on his contract, worth $25 million.Given the widespread interest in his services, he will have to strike a more lucrative deal.
Bringing back Ballinger could exacerbate the lineup problem that Cashman is dealing with. The staff is currently left-handed."It's a problem," Cashman said (c/o Greg Joyce of the New York Post).Cashman added that a team won't make a trade just to get a right-handed hitter if it's not better than the left-hander currently in place.
The Aron Cubace and GianCarlo Stanton Stanton is only forced to hold the next time. The brief of the combination is, to be the correct, with JOE Capleroa to take the situation to anticuous.Yankees led the lion in OPS, WBA and WRC + VOCO-BODER-DEBRO-DEBER -
If Cashman wants to balance out the lineup, certain righties in the infield come to mind.George Lombard Jr., the team's top prospect, appears to be on the verge of making an impact at the MLB level.Cashman threw cold water on the possibility of Lombard appearing immediately.
The position is consistent with Cashman's previous comments about Lombard's career. The split in 2023 doubled to 21215 a year earlier, even in his 20th season alone.Lombard made a sweet high earlier this year by getting a leap. His strike rate jumped dramatically with the patriots beyond.25%.Lombard had 24 thefts while Jing took home eight.Good bet to repeat in double to open next season.A solid performance can force Yanquin's hand, especially if the Caballero / Volpe Dasters combination.
While Bellinger was able to rejoin the team, another reunion failed, apparently without even trying.Cashman said the Yankees never made an offer for free agent Devin Williams (h/t The Athletic's Chris Kirschner).Williams and his former team were said to have mutual interest in a return, but he ended up joining the rival Mets on a three-year, $51 million deal.gone
Williams came to the Yankees in a December 2024 trade with the Brewers. He missed the closer role for a month this season and needed an injury to Jucas Weaver to get back into the mix for relief. He looked good for a few months, but the Yankees went out and got David Bednar at the trade deadline.Bednar is getting closer to his arrival, moving Williams into a setup role. The acquisition history may prevent Camilo Dol-yakins from attracting Williams, who said that it "depends on the scenario that influences his free agency decision. The Mets opened a clear opening by selecting Edwin Diaz and hitting free agency.

Bellinger should resign. The Yankees went 6 years, they should do it.Taker should be the other option if Cody goes elsewhere.
I'm not signing it at all, especially not for 6 years.Check out his story. He plays well under contract. The Dodgers let him get nothing, then the Cubs just dealt him to the Yanks, but paid $5 million to get him.If you leave it, then Jones is blocked and he is ready to think.
Jones is not locked in.I'm not even convinced that he deserves to be called right away. But Grisham is only signed for one year and the Yanks are only committed to Stanton until 2027 for $15 million. They can allow the Grisham Wall or cut a bad game or injury in 2026. In addition, injuries often end the production
Jones didn't stop
* It means that he supports blocking whatever it takes to block him and can see the damage in play.
A) I don't think anyone will argue with me when I say that Jones could benefit from their AAA season considering his strikeout rate.T) Most people consider it a hope that they are stuck to be very long and in the season or even in the middle of the season they feel the Lthitike Grisham Tree. So, no, it's not closed. And waiting for an injury is more than the most confident in this team.Any injury that occurs, DH, 1b or c can easily move Jones into the picture. So, no, it's not that they are "stuck" about anyone who hasn't seen 6 months which is a long time.
Don't try to define what it means to just be good on mlbtr lol. There are so many people in front of him on the depth chart that he has no place, that one player was deleted.
And as for the seasoning, 25-year-olds just keep it AAA and wear it out.
Never do it again stupid brother.Locked in means someone is locked into that position by contract length or value, or if there's performance, you're not considering moving them.Grisham signed a contract for only 1 year, and Stanton can theoretically be reduced after this season and have 15 million dollars.Like I said, someone has to get hurt to make room at a few possible positions, and it's guys.Who cares that he turns 25 in May?Judge didn't leave until he was 25.David Ortiz and Juan Bautista didn't last until 25+ full-time.The Al Yanks have to worry about "is he ready" as they develop him over the next 6 years. So no, he's not blocked. Not good enough to warrant a trade for anyone right now.
Stop adding possibilities to the meaning of lockdown.Follow your own advice about doubling down. He's blocked.Several players ahead of him are blocking him from making the MLB roster. This is what lockdown means.Changing the definition to strengthen your argument is intellectually dishonest.
Yes Yes if all these players in front of this team leave or get injured at some point they will not be blocked thanks. If a player needs others to leave or is injured to play, they are blocked.Hope this starts to click for you, I'll write it in the simplest terms."Juan Batista" lol
If by your definition "blocked" means "players ahead of him, at their position," then in all likelihood "blocked" means that an MLB team will have someone at their position until they are promoted, either because they felt ready, because a spot opened up for them, or because an injury created a need.First of all, I don't understand why anyone feels prepared.67 games in AAA He's had a great year, but there's still a lot to do.It might be wise to invite him to minor league camp with him competing for a spot and then send him to AAA to see where he is in his development. Then send him to AAA to start the season and hope he's good enough to lead to a call-up.The Americans have a big problem. They have depth.34 houses from someone who signed the money.Let's see if it's the right one.Dominguez looked great in his first full season. If it's my pot-bellied brother, even better. This is not a problem that needs fixing.
Block they mean "obstacle to progress or doing something" or "movement, way, way or not".each time, the meaning of the word must be changed to cover the holes.
Why is a .897 ops in AAA at 24 years old not my problem, not ready. For all the comparisons to Joey Gallo and Gallo retiring for the holidays, Gallo had this off-tangent about how you didn't listen to people who jammed AAA before he was called up at age 22. He and the Yankees are spending 22 million instead of solving real problems like SS and 3B.
*Why a 24 year old is poised to have an .897 OPS is not my problem
Terrible reception.Bellinger is the worst thing we can do.He's expensive enough to make Hal whine about wages, but not good enough to get us closer to a championship.
Tucker is a hitter who makes a difference.Spending $800 million on Soto, but $400 million on Tucker was clinical insanity on the part of Hall and Cashman.I hate this franchise.
Not satisfied with the current Yankees right fielder?Tucker can't handle left field at Yankee Stadium and he certainly can't handle center.
Tucker in left is much better than Bellinger because Tucker's bat is much better.
So GG's defense and Belli's multiple stances are not even extreme enough?
I wouldn't say he's better, Bellinger has more skill and costs less.
The golden ball is considered useless.Bell's offense was league average for half of his career. And of course, his 120 wRC+ isn't enough. It will take Tucker and another very good hitter.
Cost should not be a factor if we were willing to pay Soto $800 million. And yes, Tucker is much better.
While I won't say "necessarily", I would like to see him come back. Also, I don't agree with others about his contract years (such a cheap take on BS because everyone was trying harder that year), and he got hurt in LA.Taker is probably the better player, though overall closer to Belli in terms of pedigree than people want to admit.
I would go for 4 years max
This is a small point, but I think it's important to note that Bednar didn't make it all that quickly when the Yankees traded for him.Their intent was to let Williams be the closer, but he went through another bad spell, so they had to move Bednar closer.
The whole second half ordermout wglioun was perfect, but he was still bad and Naola was bad in the second half, it was shocking in the first half, it was shocking.
Imo I still think the Yankees should trade for Cowan.Grisham's suggestion was wrong.I think they did it because they knew Bellings was coming back and tucker was too expensive.
I think you expect him to slow down.Even if he doesn't get 2 AAV, he should have a 45-55 million deal over 3 years.Still, it's a little surprising that he didn't go for the big deal.Maybe in the 27th they removed from the 3 year agreement. If there is a lock in 27 minutes, you will lose some of that money, so it took 1 year of her salary.
I think the Yankees will be fine with Grisham. He was good before and after Soto left the club.If you look at his stats, he tried to be a power player. After Grisham left him, he returned to what made him an MLB player.
If I recall Bednar had two non save appearances before he got his first save. He was pretty much in the mix right away.
Williams must go...he's as bad as Ed Whitson and Sonny Gray. Totally melted down in New York.
Cashman thought he was smart, I asked him to think that another team had offered Gisham, a better contract, for many years.Maybe .. separate from his face. Now, he's angry enough to pay this guy $22 million, and he'll likely return to his .185 average.
You have zero points!
More than you.
If you think of yankees fouled to qo with the uniforms. In to get a better praise, and can i buy people in their work.
I agree. They obviously like Grisham, so they can make him a long-term contract.
Grisham was nowhere near his reputation as a defensive defender last year, and the bat returned to his tremendous career and when it mattered most.
It may have been because in part it was broken, but looking at the Greek, but looking at the Greek, in the season in the second season of the season has left me a little disappointed in us in 2026.
¡Bellinger dimite!
I could watch the Bird trade that signed bell Bellinger play first.
At some point they have to make a mistake and play John or play John.If Doinguez hits from the right side, does that balance out some content?
I think Belly will get more reps in 1st after Goldie leaves. If they can trade Dominguez for a pitcher and another inside bench bat off corner, Spencer Jones could be 4th.
What else can be found for them that is better than what they had?
There are some interesting arms, how about Joe Ryan?I think the package or the scoop for the shots...how about Mitch Keller?Sandy Alcantara? But to answer why Dominguez could be dealt...yes, his costs will be controlled, but when he is controlled, if Bellinger steps down, he is not resigned.Spencer Jones will come...can Dominguez be a hero...yes he can but sometimes you have to make trades in baseball
Who is the "bird" and why is Belly up to 1 when you have Tax Star and Rice Star? And why would you trade Dominguez after he reaches his first year at age 22, and is the price controlled? What does that mean?I don't understand some of you.The Yanks need guys like Rice, Lava, Dominguez, Volpe, Gill and Schmidt to make 3 blanks that make $750 million and $750 colored $750 dollars.
I hope my Mets sign Bellinger, even if Alonso resigns, Bellinger can play.
There are 3 things I wish my Yankee fans would stop doing in 2026: Stop worshiping Kwan's shrine. He's a good player, but if you think he's the missing piece to start our postseason run, if he's absurd and slowly leading the way, I'll point you to his.He was beaten by Bellinger, Grisham and Dominguez with a .330 OBP.He probably won't be able to hit Dominguez with more than 15 homers, and his OPS I'd rather work on his growing pains in leadoff and OF than move him to Kwan, who isn't done.He also struggled against lefties last year with a sub-.600 OPS and sub-.300 OBP and 200 PA against lefties. That makes him more of a platoon guy than someone you trade big prospect assets to get and develop 600 PA.Second, he can at least hit high-A ball.Until he shows up, let's hold off on trusting Lombard will assume a significant position or make a significant impact in 2026. I like his defense and offensive zone dominance, and I'm confident the hits will come.Keys let him pitch in the minors and not risk him like we did with Volpe and test him the first time as a tackle. Finally, let's stop treating Spencer Jones like a box of cottage cheese that will soon expire. He is more likely to be drafted out of college. He was only in the minors for 2 seasons and there were some changes. We all know he needs to work on limiting his at-bats, but there are a lot of guys that size these days, even if he's hitting north of 165x.Obviously, this type of hitter is not what the Yankees need, but we need more true hitters.People seem to be considering having Judge, Grisham, Dominguez, and hopefully Beli, Tucker, or whoever is causing trouble. It's not a problem, but if they were, it's good to have It was a problem. There is absolutely no reason to act on someone just to act on them.Dominguez is only 22 years old. Grisham is only signed through 2025. Stanton is chronically injured and the Yankees are on the hook for just $15 million in 2027 if they have a reason to release him if he performs poorly in 2026.Cashman has built a team with options.Let's not give up on that.
That's a lot my friend, but I agree with Quan, though I don't hate him.
Belching or Tucker would be ideal.
Yankee fans want us to get Tucker
Yankee hackers/cheat fans want us to be brave.
It is very simple. You're not a Yankee fan if you want him back.
Why so?
Because Bellinger is mediocre and an excuse not to spend the HAL on a real bat.
Please ignore me for saying "Hal doesn't want to spend money". He offered Soto three quarters of a billion a while ago. You're like the woman who complains about her mother's low prices because she bought me a Birkin two years ago, but last year she "only" bought me a "nice" Dior bag. She didn't buy me the close to more expensive Hermès bag that she really wanted. It's not my money, but I don't think Tucker is worth it.the $400 million I'm hearing. Especially if he has a permanent injury, that should be taken into account.
This is complete hogwash.Yes.If you didn't like Bellinger last season, I guess you weren't watching.I like the Tucker, but I see more because of its price.
It seems like Belling was born to play (and succeed) at Yankee Stadium.Made the place for him.
Playing 81 games in the Bronx - as opposed to WRigley or Hollywood or Arlington - makes Belly a more productive player.
I'm a badass...I don't want anything to do with Tucker at this point, much more than back and forth.A better decision for many reasons.
1. Berry is cheaper 5 years around 150 vs. Tucker 10 400
2. Not another 10-year long-term contract.Name 1 contract that is actually great for the team...
3. White plays all 3 positions and 1b that the Yankees need, and Tucker is the RF that needs to play left.
4 Loss of a Draft Pick to Tucker
5. Belli can play in NY as he is proven Tucker probably can but again how many have gotten the big contract and then not produced at the same level
For what it's worth, it's fine if I have another year or two. At 5 years old 36 37 ok, let him ride
To say that fake fans want a belly is completely wrong!
OP's statement is not only inaccurate, but also ridiculous.Hmmm, like, we're not a fan of men who want to play well for us, and we're really a fan of Banana Dad?
Agent Bellinger is looking for 200m at 6 years. I won't go with him for 5 years.I think they will go the commercial route.
It doesn't matter now.If the Giants sign Tucker, then they can't sign Imai or King.If they sign Bellinger, they will be in a better position to sign a starter and have more work to do.Diaz would be a great signing for 4 years, but they will never be.They would rather cry poor and lose. The 2027 baseball season is not.
Since when did the Yankees cry poverty as an excuse not to sign someone? Yankee fans are completely spoiled and out of touch with reality.
Really? The Yankees threw Soto about $800 million last season, right? Thankfully he turned it down.Thank God.Then they can offer Tuck $427 million over 10 years! 🤦♂️
You read me wrong.I submit that the Yankees are NOT crying because of poverty.
There are teams looking for both and advocates don't believe Jazz is a long-term strategy.I think the Yankee System is very low in Jazz Clutch Brotherhood and baseball IQ.His trade value is at an all-time high in year 4. Philly and several other teams are looking to add a second baseman. Why doesn't Mosona go to Philly and turn around and trade for Dontavan and Arenado and JC Romero Sebetsana.Donovan has no jazz magic, to me.and it's 5 tools but you play the right game.Arenado can fill the 1st / 3rd Baseman Platoon RH BAT.JC Romero adds to the left net.Since Arenado still includes the price tag should not be high. The Yankees can't move Jones and Domimieuze, especially because the visitor wants a million to a million for 6 years. So Louis or Luis Gil or Warren, Ben Hess, and other prospects are not covered by rejecting Rule 5.
They then sign King to replace this arm, bringing the salary to over 30,000.They add another bat during the season, add Donovan, add jazz, add jazz, add jazz.
I don't think you know how he feels about Yank's heat and jazz.Actually, I think you are listening to him.I didn't miss this "Dokovan doesn't have the same tools or 5 that Jazra has but" does junk have the wrong skill to do this?Who can give you outside kind of ideas.Warren Price Controlled and Secret 4.
there is no need to take any of the steps you suggested.
Yes, the Yanks could also trade for Kwan if they don't want to end the season with Dominguez and Jones.
