Three students have been killed in a shooting at a school in the United States
1 min readAt least Three students were killed and eight others were injured, including a teacher. Authorities say a 15-year-old student was quickly arrested in a shooting at a high school in Oxford, Michigan, on Tuesday.
The Oakland Police Department said there was a sharp response from police and emergency responders following the bombing of Oxford High School about 40 miles north of Detroit just before 1:00 pm local time.
“The suspect fired several times,” Deputy Sheriff Michael McCabe told reporters at the scene. “There are various victims. I am sorry to inform you that at present we have three victims.”
The dead included a 16-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl, he added.
The 15-year-old student at the school, who allegedly fired the shots, was quickly detained by police without resisting after firing 15 to 20 rounds with a semi-automatic handgun, McCabe said.
“The whole deal lasted five minutes,” McCabe said.
Authorities believe the student acted alone.
McCabe praised the school for firing and preparing for an orderly retreat.
Spokesman John Sackie told reporters that National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan briefed President Joe Biden on the shooting before commenting at the Minnesota College of Technology.
Biden, from Minnesota, says: “My heart goes out to families who have lost loved ones in unimaginable pain.
