Renault Megane returns to Brazil with an SUV body and electric motor
3 min readWhen he was CEO RenaultLuca de Meo said he would focus on SUVs in Brazil, and no one was considering a comeback Megan. That’s right, to adapt to new customer demand, it – which was in Brazil in the 1990s and 2000s in hatch and sedan form – has become an SUV. And put another change in that account: It has an electric motor. Already on sale in Europe, the new Mégane arrives here in the latter half of 2022.
Unveiled at the 2021 Munich Motor Show (Germany), the new generation of the mid-class is the first Renault generation to be built in the CMF-EV modular architecture. The base is the result of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance and came up with the concept Megan E-Visionfrom 2020.
While here in Brazil Renault has been betting almost all of its chips on basic cars with nice styling, but the story is different in Europe. it’s the New Megan E-TechOf course, it is no exception to the rule. In this sense, the headlights have full LED lighting and daytime running lights that conquer the front bumper. The logo in the center of the grille (with chrome details) has the most modern look already. At the back, the slim headlight is attached to a strip with LED lighting. Highlight the high waist line and the slight drop at the back of the ceiling – remember Land Rover Evoque.
Inside, screens dominate the dashboard. The “L”-shaped arrangement forms the 12.3-inch dashboard and the center-panel display that assembles the infotainment system, which is 12-inch and is vertical. As with Volvo, the Android operating system combines native Google services. It has wireless connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
to move
The new Mégane coming to Brazil is at the top of the edition. In it, the 60 kWh battery produces a range of up to 470 km. In terms of performance, there is 220 horsepower and a maximum torque of 30.6 million grv. In Europe, it has a version with more modest numbers: 130 horsepower and a range of 300 km. According to Renault, the Mégane E-Tech reaches a speed of 100 km / h in 7.5 seconds. The maximum speed is limited and does not exceed 160 km / h.
In terms of dimensions, it is the size of a compact SUV, with a length of 4.21 meters, a width of 1.78 meters, a height of 1.50 meters and a wheelbase of 2.70 meters. Hence, he is slightly younger than Captur’s brother. But it consumes up to 440 liters in the trunk. That is, 3 liters more than the veteran.
How much will it cost?
There are estimates that the price of Renault Megane E-Tech is more than 300,000 Brazilian riyals. However, the strategy is understandable, after all, in this way the brand does not break up sales Zoe (204,990 R$ to 229,990 R$). Although electric models do not follow the rules of the game (everyone competes with everyone else), the close competitor is believed to be Volkswagen ID.4which is also hitting stores this year.
In the list of standard items, where they can not be missing at present, there is a semi-autonomous drive. The package offers adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, for example. Premium audio Harman Kardon and Park Assist are also on the list.
