Diablo 4 will be an open world and will provide freedom to the player, but the focus will be on the campaign
2 min readIn an interview with IGN, game director Joe Shelley and Blizzard general manager Rod Ferguson explained what players can expect from the game. open world in Devil 4π§π· From their words we know the game will come π§ Lots of freedom and side questsbut the focus remains on the plot and main campaignπ§π·
“One of the concerns when highlighting the term ‘open world’ is that people have a Breath of the Wild genre idea, like ‘Oh, it’s totally organic, I can go anywhere and do anything and eventually I can do it. “That’s not really our case,” Ferguson said. Our history allows Non-linear approach, but there is a plotπ§π· We wanted to have a beginning, a central part, and an end. We wanted to start in a certain place, we wanted to end in a certain place.β
Fergusson explains that Diablo 4 offers a “branched history”, where players can choose the order in which they perform the main parts. In between, there will be the possibility to explore the game world and try your luck in or skip side quests.
“That’s the beauty of the open world, there are a lot of side quests, and there are a lot of things you can do that are not in the ‘golden path’ of the main campaign,” Ferguson added. “The campaign path is a branching path where you can decide when to attack these branches and in what order.”
Diablo 4 will obviously be overflowing with side activities, to the point where, as director Joe Shely revealed, the Blizzard team practically had to cut back on some content because the game world was so dense.
βAs you explore the game world, there are plenty of things to do, whether on horseback or on foot,β Shely said. “In fact, we had a lot of activities to do, and traveling the game world on horseback was a challenge.”
Speaking of the open world, Ferguson told something interesting and funny. while working on War Gears 5 (Before moving to Blizzard), the development team met with open-world designers from other games, who explained that the idea of ββan open world was “a kind of illusion”, as in fact, most players who play it want to be guided by adventure at the same time.
“Players say they want to Open worlds and freedom of choiceFerguson said. βBut they also want Know where to goπ§π·
